Located in Linkou District, New Taipei City, the New Taipei National Archives represents Taiwan’s first national archives facility. This repository, a vital resource for the public, holds a wealth of invaluable national records. Having opened for a trial period in September with free admission, it is officially scheduled to open on November 22nd. The building itself is a striking ten-story structure (with two levels below ground) featuring a facade of gradient brickwork painted red, complemented by glass and frosted stainless steel panels. Light-and-shadow patterned windows further enhance the design, conveying the image of a digitally accessible national memory and creating a bright, welcoming atmosphere.
The facility offers a diverse range of spaces, including exhibition halls, a children’s experience area, a national archives reading room, a creative shop, and a light-fare café. The outdoor park preserves the natural ecology, retaining native hardwood trees and incorporating an ecological pond and a retention pond. These features combine to form the functional and aesthetically pleasing “Xi Yue Pond,” along with the “Green Ridge Path,” which connects the outdoor park to the indoor exhibition hall. This path passes "Mist as a Scene," a cloud-like public artwork, immersing visitors in a poetic landscape.
Interactive and multi-sensory experiences are a key feature of the archives. The first-floor "Archive Lobby" brings archive stories to life through a large multimedia display. The second-floor "A-Kai's Little House" provides an engaging and educational experience for preschoolers. And the exhibition hall features a dedicated "Archive Fun Experience" zone, where visitors can explore an “Archive Metaverse” using immersive technology. Here, visitors can appreciate the building’s architectural beauty while also engaging in a meaningful dialogue with Taiwan’s history.
